It might be illegal and it might be immoral, but today’s marketplace is, nevertheless, saturated with fake designer goods of just about every description. In some cases these are sold shamelessly as the real thing, while in others no attempt is made to hide their real origin. At least if you know you are buying a fake, you can decide if the price being asked is reasonable, but of course if the item is sold as being authentic, you stand to lose hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.
Unscrupulous manufacturers in various countries churn out vast quantities of fake designer clothing and footwear every year, but for women it is the market in fake designer accessories which frequently ends up costing them an arm and a leg. Purses and belts are some of the most common items to be palmed off on unsuspecting customers as the real deal, but there is also a wide range of fake designer women’s silk scarves out there too. Not just in the USA, but also in many foreign resorts in particular, the stores are so full of copies that there would be no point whatsoever in investing in the real thing because it would only be assumed to be a fake anyway.
As individuals, it might be easy to think that there is little that we can do to stop the curse of fake designer goods, but actually there is. For one thing, we can avoid buying products that we know to be copies, and for another we can reduce the risk of inadvertently buying into the counterfeit market by choosing from a completely different range of items that we can be assured are from a reputable source.
Genuine silk scarves from some of the world’s best known brand names carry machine-printed designs which are, of course, repeat patterns. This makes it very easy for the manufacturers of counterfeit goods to get hold of a single piece, copy it and reproduce tens of thousands of fakes to send out to market. Hand painted silk scarves, on the other hand, are quite a different matter. Each of these stunning accessories not only bears a totally unique design, but it is produced using age-old techniques which show in the quality of the finished product. Even the original artist him or herself would find it almost impossible to create an exact copy of his or her own work, let alone an unscrupulous counterfeiter. Whenever a customer buys a handmade silk scarf, therefore, she can do so in the knowledge that she is paying a fair price for a unique, wearable work of art.
Although they retail for comparable prices, and sometimes even considerably more, genuine designer silk scarves, while they are not counterfeit products, are still copies in the sense that thousands and thousands are typically produced in the same design. Walk along the street wearing one of the latest designs and you are likely to pass umpteen other women wearing exactly the same thing. If you want to make sure that your look is totally individual, therefore, and that what you are getting is the real deal, choose hand painted scarves from a source that you can really trust.
