Although it might not seem possible to create much of a heightening effect with silk scarves, there are in fact a number of ways that you can wear them to make you appear taller, and here are just a few suggestions.
1. While taller women can get away easily with a silk scarf tied closely to the neck, this style tends to make shorter women look even shorter. By exposing more of the neck in a V-line, however, there is the impression of greater length to the body. Team your fabulous women’s silk scarf with a V-necked dress or top by folding it and tucking it inside so that there is an inch or two on display. Silk scarves in particular are excellent for this style because the fabric is so fine and therefore less inclined to cause unsightly bulges underneath your clothing. They also feel much more comfortable when in such close contact with the skin. A beautiful hand painted silk scarf with strong colors makes a stunning statement when worn in this way against a plain top or dress.
2. Long silk scarves which are knotted like a tie and worn down the front of the body also work extremely well to make you look taller. Of course, unlike a man’s tie which is worn close to the neck, the same principle applies as at 1. above, and the knot needs to hang at the top of the cleavage. Again, team your scarf up with a V-necked dress or top for maximum effect.
3. Because the vertical look is what you are trying to achieve to give an impression of greater height, another great look which works especially well with a smart business suit is one where the silk scarf is worn underneath the collar and lapels of a jacket. Simply tuck the scarf under the collar and lapels and let the ends hang down freely. With your neck still exposed and the vertical lines of the scarf accentuating your body length, you will not only look taller, but slimmer too.
4. Particularly useful for an evening look, wearing a long silk scarf over one shoulder again provides a heightening and slimming look. If you are teaming your scarf up with a strapless dress or one which has very thin straps, then try using a very low tack fashion tape to secure it.
