We all remember Anne Hathaway as Andrea Sachs from the movie the Devil wears Prada as the newly graduated free spirited journalist who wanted to jump start her career in the fashion world in New York. She had applied to be Meryl Streep’s or best known as Miranda Priestly’s assistant; Miranda who was known to be the toughest, cruelest fashion critic, notorious for her snappy comments towards her co-workers sense of style and the most sought after in the industry. So needless to say when Andrea walked into her office for an interview early one morning, silence engulfed the room as eyes scrolled up from the pasty granny shoes to the conservative boring skirt and last but not least to the muddled hairstyle with absolutely no hint of any accessories that could potentially brighten up this outfit.
Nevertheless Miranda decided to hire Andrea for the job, after all if fashion guru and the top expert at Vogue magazine couldn’t turn this ugly duckling into a beautiful put together swan, then no one else would. Of course after the initial outfit for the first part of this drastic makeover was put together, the magic only began in the accessories department. That fresh smell of leather belts, the glisten and sparkle of the watches, earrings and bangles but what Miranda needed was a much bolder statement to add on to the finishing touches of the swan.
And there from behind the blacks and whites of the closet, emerged a jungle of gold’s, reds and greens; the most exquisite of the colors put together, there were the latest silk scarves that everyone had been ranting about. This should do it, thought Miranda, after all even at the latest Oscar awards, everyone from Julia Roberts to Penelope Cruz was sporting one of those luxurious silk shawls. Some had it tied around their hair in a braid while others elegantly draped the shawl over their shoulders, even Jack Nicholson was found forking one of these silk scarves around his neck like a little bowtie.
Miranda’s job was done here now; Andrea had been transformed from an “Ugly Betty” to the ultimate fashionista, the rest will be up to how she carries herself with this newly refined image. Excited about her new job and makeover, Andrea decides to head down to the hippest lunch bistro in town. Automatically all eyes were on her as she gleamed with confidence, all main focus however was on the striking piece of art hanging around her neck – the silk shawl. The men complimented her on the vibrant colors that made her face and eyes glow, as well as the pure silky feel of the fabric; the women also did not hesitate to inquire as to where they themselves can purchase this exclusive piece from.
Andrea had finished off her lunch, not only satisfied with her food but brimming with confidence about what her future holds for her from now on and all because of a silk scarf….”What a strange power there is in clothing.”
