If there is one thing that truly makes a woman stand out as lacking in style and sophistication, it must surely be a look which is uncoordinated. Mismatching styles, patterns and colors are simply the height of bad taste and can make an otherwise attractive woman look as though she got dressed in the dark.
It is often because of the fear of looking as though they have cobbled together an outfit that many women tend to play it safe when choosing clothing and accessories. Simple styles, plain colors and absolutely no patterns leave them secure in the knowledge that they have not gone too far wrong. Often though, the finished look lacks vitality and simply looks drab and boring.
Choosing plain-colored dresses and separates such as skirts, pants and tops, however, is typically a sound investment because of course various elements of a woman’s wardrobe can be mixed and matched. By wearing different combinations of clothes, everything in the closet gets its fair share of wear and therefore represents great value for money. How though, can you inject a bit of style, color and pattern without spoiling the smart simplicity of an outfit and turning it into something fussy or garish?
Footwear and accessories are, of course, a woman’s two best friends when it comes to achieving different looks and bringing accents to otherwise plain outfits. Think, for example, how different jeans and a simple tee-shirt look when worn with sneakers compared to when worn with a pair of high-heeled, pointy-toed shoes or a fabulous pair of boots. A plain black dress, meanwhile, will look entirely different when teamed up with brightly-colored footwear and purse than if everything else is black too.
Whilst shoes, purses, belts and jewelry are all superb at bringing plain-colored outfits to life, they are, however, limited in their ability to add just the right amount of pattern to the mix. A large enough purse might just do the trick, but for those evenings out, who wants to be carrying a purse the size of a suitcase? Women’s silk scarves and shawls, on the other hand, bring all the elements of color, pattern and the ultimate in elegant style no matter what the outfit or the occasion.
Let us take the example of the little black dress as this is a staple ingredient of almost every woman’s wardrobe. You could, of course, stick with plain black shoes and purse and then introduce color and pattern with a hand painted silk scarf or handmade silk shawl and the finished result would still look fabulous. Team it up with matching shoes, purse and jewelry and a silk scarf or shawl which contains the same shade within its design though, and the look will not only be more complete but also far more interesting. Red, hot pink or orange accessories, for instance, and a luxury silk scarf or shawl featuring a unique design of a flower or an abstract pattern using the same shade would look extremely striking. If you simply stick with a single patterned item and follow the main color theme into other accessories, you can make a stunning statement and everyone will know that your lights work just fine!
