How to Bag Yourself a Bargain Using Women’s Silk Scarves and Shawls

November 9, 2010

Everyone loves a bargain, whether they really need to save money or not. There is just something about knowing that we have managed to get a few dollars knocked of that original asking price that fills our hearts with glee. Of course, sometimes we don’t even have to do any negotiating in order to bag ourselves a great deal. End of season sales can see prices slashed to a fraction of what they were. On other occasions we might be able to haggle over the price of an item, although this is rarely acceptable in the majority of large stores. There are times though, when even in chain stores you can negotiate a price reduction, and that is when an item is slightly damaged or shop-soiled.

If you have ever been into a store and tried on a ‘must have’ item of clothing only to find that it has a mark on it or a slight snag and it is the last one in the store or in your size, you will know how frustrating an experience that can be. You really don’t feel that you can live without the piece, but you are certainly not going to pay top dollar for it and wonder to what extent the flaw will affect its wearability anyway. With a lovely selection of women’s silk scarves and shawls at home though, what you can do it negotiate a rock bottom price for the item and then wear it with one of your fabulous accessories so that the imperfection does not show. Although some of the high class shops might refuse to sell a damaged item because of the effect on their reputation or the reputation of the brand that they are representing, in a great many cases they will be glad to accept a knock-down price rather than not sell at all.

Other occasions when you can use silk scarves and shawls to cover up imperfections on items of clothing which are bought cheaply is when you make your purchase from a ‘seconds’ or ‘reject’ store. These outlets typically sell well-known brands of clothing which contain slight manufacturing flaws, many of which are barely even noticeable. The prices, of course, reflect the fact that the item is less than perfect and so the buyer gets a really good deal. Even if the fault is in a place which makes it appear fairly obvious, often it can still be well worthwhile buying it anyway as, with a little bit of imagination and creativity, you will be able to use your silk scarf or shawl to conceal it.

When using silk scarves or shawls in this way, it is always better to buy the very best quality that you can afford and to invest in one of the stunning hand painted examples which are available. The reason for this is firstly because the exquisite accessory will take the focus away from the flawed item, and secondly because other people will naturally assume that the flawed item is of the same high quality as the women’s scarf or shawl. Although it might not at first seem to make much sense to pay slightly more for the accessory, the fact is that you will be able to wear your silk scarf or shawl with any number of your bargain outfits, so its cost will very quickly be redeemed in the numerous savings that you will make.
