Silk Scarves and Shawls for the Fabulous Over 50s

  As we make our way through our twenties, thirties and forties, it seems almost inconceivable that much about our physical appearance is going to change to any marked degree in the very near future. We may acquire the odd tiny wrinkle and put on an extra pound or two, but for the main part it seems as though we might just avoid the ravages of time that all of those before us have had to experience… until, that is, we reach our late forties or early fifties and then bang, suddenly it feels as though all the years have caught up with us overnight. Even though we might be as thin as rakes, those tell-tale areas of cellulite begin to show themselves and somehow our skins just doesn’t seem to fit quite as well as it once did. Arms and legs start to feel flabby and as our hemlines come down, so too do the lengths of our sleeves.

As depressing as all this sounds, however, huge numbers of women would agree that hitting the big 5-0 isn’t all bad. In most cases, we still have our physical health and all our faculties, but on top of this we have an inner sense of strength and self-confidence born of our life experience which many of our juniors envy. It is a time when we finally dare to be ourselves without worrying too much about what other people think and it is a time of life when many women become braver and bolder than they have ever been.

It’s funny, but sometimes you only have to glance at what a woman is wearing to guess that she has reach 50, even if she looks years younger, and often it is her use of color which gives the game away. After having spent most of their lives wearing muted tones which were free from pattern, women over 50 suddenly seem to discover the joys of striking reds and oranges and fuchsia pinks. Look along any street and it will almost certainly be the over 50s who not only brighten up the crowds but also stand out for their sheer elegance and sophistication.

Reaching 50 should be a time to celebrate and inject some style, class and luxury into our lives, and one great way to do this is to treat ourselves to something that makes us feel absolutely fabulous and indulges our newly-found need for color.
