Choosing what to wear at the height of the four seasons does not generally cause most women too many problems. With the odd exception, we usually know what to expect from the weather and so can choose our wardrobe accordingly. When it gets trickier though, is during those awkward transitions from winter into spring, spring into summer, summer into fall and fall into winter. From one day to the next we can find ourselves being tossed back and forth from one season to another and either digging through a collection of clothes which has already been stored away in preparation for the coming months, or being woefully under or overdressed.
One of the most effective ways for dealing with the transition of the seasons is to keep a ready supply of gorgeous silk scarves and shawls always at hand. As the weather gradually warms up or cools down throughout the year, these stunning accessories will not only see you always looking at your glorious best, but they will ensure that you are just warm or cool enough.
Silk, although it is often thought of as being a light, flimsy and therefore not particularly warm fabric, actually has some amazing properties when it comes to temperature. At the same time as being very cooling on those warmer days, it has the remarkable ability to retain heat when temperatures plummet. It is for this latter reason that silk has traditionally been used as a lining fabric in all kinds of different garments and why the aviators of years gone by were always kitted out with a silk scarf. When you suddenly find yourself transported from a gloriously summery day back into the cool crispness of a spring morning, therefore, there is no need to drag out that heavy coat. Simply wrap a silk scarf or, better still, a stunning hand dyed shawl over the top of a light summer jacket and you will not only feel snuggly warm but look fabulous into the bargain.
Sometimes, when the temperature dips suddenly but not too dramatically, we do not need much to add that extra bit of warmth, in which case a gorgeous hand painted scarf wrapped or tied around the neck is ideal. Unlike high-necked sweaters that you are stuck with for the rest of the day, silk scarves can quickly and easily be removed once you are indoors in the warm so that you always remain comfortable.
From a style point of view, one of the greatest issues about the transitions of the seasons is that often the last minute addition of layers can leave an outfit looking as though it lacks cohesion. Women’s silk scarves and shawls, however, make a stunning addition to any ensemble, and especially those silk scarves and shawls which are hand painted or hand dyed. The glorious range of vibrant colors which are used to create the totally unique designs on these exquisite accessories can easily be coordinated with anything from dresses, skirts or pants to jackets and coats, so that the finished look is one which is complete, harmonious and wonderfully elegant whatever the time of year.
