Since the mid 1990s, a craze for pashmina scarves and shawls has been part of the fashion world. Although the fine and high quality product has been produced by hand harvested and spun wool for centuries, the product did not receive much notice by fashion aware women until that decade. The fad resulted in the availability of the product depleted by the sudden and strong demand. Prices soared and quality plummeted as lower quality products were sold as being pashmina.
