No matter what their natural proportions, all women have thin days and fat days – it’s just the way we are made. We suffer from water retention and pre-menstrual bloating and sometimes it feels as though we are inflating and deflating like balloons. One minute our clothes feel comfortable and make us look like a million dollars and the next they are stretched and pulled and wrinkled.
Of course, in an ideal world we would all have an entire wardrobe of clothes for those times when we are feeling slim and svelte and a completely separate set of outfits for the days when we feel bloated and podgy. This is not, however, an ideal world, and most of us do not have bottomless pits for pockets. The best that we can do is reach for the items with the most ‘give’ in them and then do a bit of a cover-up job.
The last thing that we need on fat days is anything else fitted that is going to squash, squeeze or dig in to our flesh. What we need instead is something soft, loose and flowing – something like a gorgeous hand painted scarf or shawl made from 100% pure silk.
On days when every seam feels as though it is carving a dent the size of the Grand Canyon into your skin, the softness of silk feels like an ice-cold bottle of water to a parched man in the desert. It soothes and caresses and, even if it does not actually take away the discomfort, it certainly helps to take your mind off it!
When water retention and bloating affects the tummy area, which it typically does, a stunningly elegant silk shawl will completely disguise any puffiness, as well as the unsightly wrinkling around the waistline of dresses or the waistbands of skirts or pants. Around the bust too, and particularly where any chubbiness shows above the bra line underneath the arms or across the back, a silk shawl will do a great job of hiding any bulges.
Although it might be hard to imagine that a women’s silk scarf could do much of a cover-up job, the very long scarves which can be as wide as around 24 inches can be every bit as effective as a shawl. Rather than tying the scarf as you might do normally, simply drape it around your neck and let it hang down the front of your body so that it covers the breasts, waist and stomach. No matter how you feel, you will be amazed at how close you look to your thin self.
The truth about your fat days is actually that most other people would not even notice the difference in the way that you look, and so even if your fabulous hand painted silk scarf or shawl does not cover you up entirely, it does not really matter. Other people’s eyes will be drawn to the gorgeous fabric, the stunning design and the vivid colors, and when they tell you just how good you look in your beautiful accessory, you will automatically feel better.
