When we decide to invest in a new silk scarf, there is, of course, an enormous range of products to choose from. At the lower end of the market price-wise, there are either plain-colored women’s silk scarves or those with machine-printed designs, and these can be found at huge numbers of retail outlets. Next, there are the designer labeled silk scarves such as those bearing the names of Chanel, Gucci, Hermes and the like. Whilst these also typically carry printed designs, as you might expect, they sell for considerably more than their unbranded equivalents, simply because of the name and sometimes because there is a small element of individual craftsmanship which goes into them, although this is normally just limited to something like the hand-stitching around the edge of the scarf for instance.
Few women’s accessories represent such tremendous value for money as exquisite hand painted silk scarves and shawls, and here are 10 of the top reasons for investing in your own personal collection.
Although most of us women would dearly love to be able to go through our closets at each change of season and treat ourselves to a whole new collection of fabulous clothes, the reality is that we simply cannot afford it. Indeed, in many cases, when we check out our wardrobes we find items that we have had for years and which we still drag out from time to time. Often, these are things which are still in very serviceable condition, but they are also ones which we have grown tired of over time.
With fall fast approaching and the prospect of cooler weather just around the corner, women all around the country are already thinking about storing away their summer clothes and accessories and filling their closets with all those items designed specifically to protect them from the cooler weather. Fall though, can often present a mixed bag in terms of temperatures, with some days being crisp and chill and others bathed in glorious sunshine. Rather than risk being bundled up in thick winter garments which can be oppressively hot on the warmer days, many women find that fall is the time for wearing layers which can easily be removed and replaced.
Most women, when they are thinking about buying a new womens’ scarf or shawl, imagine that they can only go one of two ways. They can either choose something which will be hard-wearing and practical, or they can opt for a luxury item which they might not consider to be quite as serviceable. Just because a womens’ scarf or shawl both looks and feels luxurious, however, does not mean that it is not also highly practical or versatile, or that it does not represent extremely good value for money. A more utilitarian scarf or shawl, on the other hand, could never be considered to be luxurious.
Not surprisingly, goods which are marked as ‘handmade’ typically sell for higher prices than those which are factory-produced. Without the economies of scale that mass-production merchants can benefit from, and because handmade goods require high levels of creativity and expertise and considerably more time to produce, they simply cannot be made as cheaply. Sometimes, however, goods which only involve a craftsman or woman in a tiny part of the production process can still sell for high prices, and one example of this relates to some of the designer silk scarves which can be found in many department stores.
