The start of a new day begins and each thought and each feeling is greeted. We wake up to a mirage of life that is before us. So it’s no wonder we want whatever we wear to exhibit how we feel and something that represents us. Though some may not put much thought into one outfit especially if it’s for a day to run errands or be amongst other friends for a casual outing, it is a constant and almost habitual thought to wear what you feel the day of even if its plan in advance. Sometimes the plan may not always go according to plan and we can even be compared to those hectic lives of the limelight.
Elegance: that hard to define quality; that ‘je ne sais quoi’ that some women just seem to be naturally blessed with and others spend their lives trying to achieve. There is a special air about an elegant woman which shows itself in everything from the way she carries herself, to her hairstyle and what she chooses to wear. Whether she is walking around the mall or spending a night out at the opera, she looks perfect, faultless, immaculate.
As time goes so does the latest fashion. In with the new and out with old is how the expression goes. But as teenagers do we always go with the “it” fashion of the season or do we configure something that is genuine and unique to us. Most of the time, which isn’t hard to believe, we get out fashion sense from television where the latest designs and trends rest their intriguing looks the bodies of well known celebrities. And on these television shows sometimes we are introduced to new yet ancient garments that have been seen time and time again and sometimes we don’t even know they’re there. The garments that lie in lurk on the sensational and versatile silk shawls.
When you see a handmade silk scarf or shawl, it is certainly not difficult to marvel at the beauty of the craftsmanship and work which has gone into its design and production. When you consider what has gone into the production of the silk itself though, the whole creation seems like a small miracle.
The lives of women today are nothing if not fast and furious. What with work, children, home and a social life to think about, we seem to spend our days running from one place to another and often do not have time to even think about how we are going to ensure that we are suitably attired. With a selection of fabulous handmade silk scarves and shawls to hand, however, women can become the ultimate quick change artists and be prepared for any occasion.
Whether the items that we buy are mass-produced or handmade, few of us give much consideration to the way in which they are produced. Watching the process of creating a hand painted scarf, however, gives a real appreciation of the amount of time, effort and creativity which goes into every single piece - because these gorgeous accessories are genuine and wearable works of art.
Shawls have been around since time immemorial. Worn by men and women all around the world, they have been used as practical items for warmth or protection from the sun, as well as high fashion accessories. They have formed part of the traditional dress in many different countries and they have been worn at particular events, and there are even special shawls which are worn for certain occasions, such as the prayer shawl. Somehow though, when most people think of shawls, they think of them as being an old woman's garment, similar to a bed jacket. The image is of grandma huddled around a log fire, wrapped in her favorite black shawl to keep out the cold. These wonderfully practical and beautiful accessories, however, have changed and adapted throughout the ages, and the stunning hand dyed shawls made from silk which are available today bring a look of elegance and sophistication to women of all ages.
As time progresses styles and trends are set. Some last for decades while others are short lived and there’s no one there to throw a single rose. But as time changes the only thing that will remain the same is the hunger and the desire for fashion and its every changing mind in the world today. But what are these priceless fashion styles that they wish to hold on to or what is it in present day that is a must have now for teenagers of all ages.
What if you were truly a shopaholic and had the slightest impulse to buy anything you felt you “needed”? You didn’t have the money yet it was dire and almost imperative that you have that dress that just may go to the clearance rack in about two weeks or that wallet that you swear is cheaper at this particular store. There comes a time in our remote lives dimmed out of the limelight that we don’t always envy those celebrities in the limelight but when we see something eye catching it’s hard to turn away from it. In movies such as Confessions of Shopaholic starring Isla Fisher, we intrigued with her story of being obsessed and yet still having the money to gain all those unnecessary items and being literally as her best friend described “up to her eye in debt.” We don’t imagine ourselves in this predicament nor do we think about ever chopping up and frozen block of ice with a high heel to get out a credit card we swore off; but one thing we can’t let go of is the sense and the need for style.
With new fashion styles coming out sometimes we forget the simplest of fashion forms that rock the U.S and even nationwide. Sometimes the styles are brought back and revamped to show the new generations new style and individuality but in reality it probably what was presented a decade ago and bedazzled. But as women what are we to do but either love or hate what fashion designers put out. But there are also times as a woman we can’t always afford the pricey wear the celebrities wear even if it’s a reincarnation of jeans made a decades ago like the bell bottoms. As designers become more and better known they’re pieces become more and more expensive leaving us with no choice but to opt out of buying what we want readily or saving for it. Though there are plenty of different styles out there to enhance you and your style what people have also lost over time is the idea of wearing a silk wrap. In the present day we see women only covering their hair to keep it from harm or to cover it up on the worst of days, but what happened to wearing a nice silk scarf because it matched your outfit or because it was the accessory that would really put your outfit on the map for you.
