During the summer the weather can go up and down in its variations of heat, cold, humidity and we some time even waver on what we should wear because of these odd variations in the summer. We want to be cool but then just that fast it’s hot and we have no idea as to what to wear, especially during the night. So what can be both soothing and tranquil, not to warm and not too cool? What garment can take us from those exhausting warm nights and those cool evenings where you can enjoy a sunset with rubbing your arms to sudden warmth? We need diversity and something that can both be cooling and bring warm and a garment to provide both qualities would be silk.
Soon the never ending parties and the sunsets on the beaches after a bonfire will come to an end. It’s July and we don’t want to even begin to think about what school will bring; book reports, essays, annoying math problems that we wish would solve themselves, and strange or mean teachers we could rather do without. But one of the bright sides to going back to school is rummaging through your closet for something to wear or going shopping for new clothes and supplies. Back to school shopping can be fun and could be considered the best part about going back to school; getting a new book bag finally or even a new haircut to start your year off. We all want that pizzazz when we come back to school whatever it maybe to show that we have change during the summer. Now you can back to school with some helpful tips to stay sleek and motivated to start your new school year off with a great big bang a garment that is just as cool as you silk!
As you go through the grocery store line you’re almost always bombarded with tabloids and you can’t but notice not only the scandals and secrets being exploited but the flashy way some of the celebrities dress. Sometimes you’ll see those that wear jeans that are worth $100 or more and sometimes your wonder why those jeans or whatever item that they are wearing is so special. Is it the name brand? Is it the name of the person wearing them? And we think that do we need to be special to wear certain things. This is definitely not true and sometimes the simplest garment can make us stand out.
A closet is full of a woman’s thoughts, passions, and inspiration and sometimes dreams (those jeans still sitting on the upper shelf that you pray someday you’ll get into). And when we look into it we think of all the possibilities and do’s and don’ts. But we make sure that what we have in our closet is something that can be worn frequently or something that we saw as an investment.
Silk painters from France and Hungary report that their teachers acquired the skills and techniques of the craft in France from members of the Russian czar's family. During the Bolshevik Revolution, members of the czar's family dispersed. However, the roots of this art didn’t die in Russia.
Sometimes the prettiest of things can be used for something other than what we feel they should be. Painted silk shawls give of a radiance and serene feeling when worn but there are some other uses for silk shawls that can be useful within a house hold so that that same feeling can be felt throughout. Just to spice up your home or closet or anywhere; silk shawls can allow you to do this and still be tasteful.
“Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” This is a saying that has been said so many times that young women tend to grow up thinking that this is what they are suppose to have a want in a best friend; shiny, complex, and full of awe and inspiration. But another best friend to a woman is silk.
When you first look at a piece of art the first thing do you think of is how much value it could come to worth or the creators purpose. When viewing silk scarves the simplicity of the art work would only allow a person to think of its prints but the process is not always simple as copy and pasting a bunch of prints. Silk scarves are not to only be seen as a sense of fashion or that one piece that allows people embrace the art work from generation to generation to see another piece to be viewed.
Silks are luxurious fabrics, delicate in an aesthetic sense yet practical and durable. With the proper care, silk scarves and shawls can be enjoyed for a lifetime.
Unfortunately, since imported silk is often sold by weight, an old process of "weighting" woven silks with metal salts has given silk a reputation for poor durability. The metal salts coat the silk fibers, making them heavier and thus temporarily more profitable to sell, but later causing them to disintegrate and shred, creating a dry rotting effect that was blamed on mold, mildew, sunlight, and aging. Now that this "weighting" process is (for the most part) illegal, silk has proven to be very resistant to the various molds, mildews, and rots that plague other natural fibers. Even though silk is very resistant to decay, it should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from heat and dampness.
Silk is a beautiful gift from nature that has been cultivated for over 3,500 years and enjoyed for over 4,000 years. From India and China ancient colorants and resist techniques were developed to embellish the silk women clothing and silk scarves and shawls. The wax resist techniques of India have been documented back to the second century A.D. and 200 years later the wax techniques filtered into Java, which became the center of the batik industry.
